Chris Arts
After completing degrees in physiotherapy (BSc, Hogeschool Enschede, 1997) and human movement sciences (MSc, Maastricht University, 2000) he obtained his doctoral degree in medical sciences (PhD, Radboud University Medical Centre, 2006) with his thesis entitled “New development in bone impaction grafting” in which he studied from a mechanical, biological and in vivo animal models perspective whether calcium phosphate granules could replace allograft bone chips during hip revision surgery with the bone impaction grafting technique. It was in this period that his fascination with biomaterials started. 2005-2008 he was appointed clinical research manager at Stryker EMEA and next to fulfilling this role he had an advisory role on in company development of new biomaterials. Currently, Chris Arts is appointed as associate professor translational biomaterials at Maastricht University Medical Centre and also at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) where he is working in the field of translational biomaterials research with emphasis on biomaterials for use in bone defect healing, infection treatment and spinal deformity treatment. Furthermore, he is working on development of high resolution imaging techniques to visualize incorporation, degradation of biomaterials in vivo in clinical patients. 3-D printing of medical devices or implants for bone healing is another one of his research pursuits. Dr. Arts has co-authored about 60 publications in peer-reviewed international journals and several book chapters. He is a consultant, member of several workgroups and boards all related to the field of biomaterials. In 2017, together with his colleague Dr Jan Geurts, he published a book on Treatment of peri-prosthetic joint infections PJIs) for Elsevier. He will be the co-chairman of the European Society for Biomaterials congress in 2018 in Maastricht and the chairman for the 2019 European Orthopaedic Research Society meeting also to be hosted in Maastricht.
Ard van der Linden
Ard is fascinated by healthy living. Our body and mind are the only instruments we have to deal with throughout life. After starting his study of medicine in Antwerp Belgium Ard decided to start a career in behavioral marketing. After his MSc in Tilburg University Ard had a fruitful management career at global food companies, as among others FrieslandCampina a Dutch cooperative dairy company.
In 2016 Ard decided to realize his dream of founding his own open access marketing initiative, called The Nudge. Nudging is a marketing strategy in which we try to help clients to make better choices by influencing them in a positive way. Nudging is derived from parents who nudge their children to try new activities in a safe and controlled way.
Ever since The Nudge is developing great new strategies and initiatives in the world of LIFESCIENCE and FOOD. The TOBIG foundation is certainly one of the projects that may stand out as a true ‘change maker’ in the adoption of biomaterials within an Orthopaedic setting.
Rosa Arts
Rosa completed her degrees in Building Physics (BSc) and Real Estate Management & Development (MSc) at Eindhoven University of Technology. In 2018 she started working at a company specialized in project management and advisory for diverse (construction) projects within the physical environment. During her education she also developed a taste for graphic design. With an expertise in mostly Adobe Illustrator and InDesign, she designed several corporate identities, illustrations and web designs over the last decade. She likes to pursue her activities as a graphic designer next to her career as a project manager to achieve the best of both worlds.
